Coordinator

What's a coordinator?

Our coordinators are the heartbeat of our organization. These are the folks who build relationships with healthcare providers and patients to make their lives easier by streamlining the referral process. The high-functioning team of coordinators is the engine that drives HealthPro day-to-day – they set the tone for how the organization is perceived by those who use our services.

As a coordinator, each day is a little different – from the cases you manage to the people you encounter. If you like people, have an engaging personality, understand healthcare, enjoy problem solving and believe people deserve to know more about their healthcare decisions, this role could be a good fit for you.

So, what exactly does a HealthPro Coordinator do?

  • Talk to patients about their preferences when it comes to healthcare — You will develop a positive rapport with the patients you come in contact with, because they rely on your expertise to help them make the best decision.
  • Research healthcare options to present to patients — You will have access to sophisticated technology tools and resources, like our custom referral management system, but you may also need to think outside the box depending on the patient's requests.
  • Educate patients about confusing healthcare jargon — "Pre-certs," "deductibles," "allowables," "plan eligibility," etc. Your job is to make sure the patient fully understands who, what, where, when, why and how much to help them become more empowered healthcare consumers.
  • Schedule appointments on behalf of patients — As the liaison between the patient and the provider, you will communicate the details about the patient to the provider and the details about the appointment to the patient, including how to prepare and what to expect.
  • Work as a team — We are a small (but mighty) group, and we like to collaborate often – this could mean doing something outside of your specified job duties from time to time. Flexibility is key.

Qualifications

  • While healthcare experience isn't mandatory, it will certainly help you. If you don't have healthcare experience, but you're a quick learner with a positive attitude – that works too. We need someone who is able to communicate with medical language to our providers, but also someone who can break down the jargon for our patients.
  • You will use many different online tools daily like email, the Internet, electronic medical records and an online database of providers. Being very comfortable with technology is essential to success in this role.
  • Candidates should have a solid understanding of how health insurance plans and employer benefits are structured.
  • Best of the best communication skills are needed since you will be interacting with a variety of people daily.
  • You will be trusted with confidential patient information, so good judgment and an understanding of HIPAA and PHI is important.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree is required for this position.

Oh... and one more thing before you hit send!

Imagine the following scenario: You are working with a patient named Harold Hurtknee who just received a referral for an MRI from his primary care provider. At this point, you don't know how important price, location and appointment availability are to him — but of course, you want to help schedule his appointment. Along with your resume and brief description of why you're the best candidate, please include an example of an email you would send Harold to begin communicating with him about his referral.
